This one manual organ for the quire of Carlisle cathedral was designed by Stephen Bicknell while working for J.W.Walker & Sons Ltd. The case, designed to complement seventeenth century woodwork in the quire (the Salkeld Screen), draws inspiration from English organs of the period, especially in its use of the visual conceit of receeding perspective rendered in trompe l'oeuil. The keyboard slides into the organ when not in use, and with the doors closed the organ takes the appearance of a cupboard. Technical design, pipe scales, and tonal finishing on site were also executed by Stephen Bicknell. | J.W.Walker & Sons Ltd Wimbledon Avenue Brandon Suffolk IP27 0NF
